There was a wedding this weekend

It didn't involve anyone famous.
You probably were unaware that it even took place.
But I need you to know that it gave me hope.
In a world in chaos,
seemingly bent on its own destruction,
2 imperfect people thought it was the perfect time
to commit to a future together.
And those of us who love them rejoiced.

So many of my thoughts, observations and feelings
during the festivities
can be summed up in the poem below
by William Stafford.

There’s a thread you follow. It goes among
things that change. But it doesn’t change.

People wonder about what you are
pursuing.
You have to explain about the thread.
But it is hard for others to see.
While you hold it you can’t get lost.
 Tragedies happen; people get hurt
or die; and you suffer and get old.
Nothing you do can stop times unfolding.
You don’t ever let go of the thread.
It's a wonderful reframing of the observation that
so many of us 'are hanging by a thread'.
May you all be so lucky.
