muted

Our part of the world
was bathed in fog this morning.

A lovely gauze,
softening edges,
blurring lines of demarcation
and
allowing me to see the world
in softer tones.

My encounters during the day
can be so sharp,
words and viewpoints
capable
of cutting
and
wounding.

I'm grateful for a more muted way
of being and seeing -
even if it only lasts
for the morning walk
with the dogs.

Dealing with what humidity does to my hair
seems a small price to pay!
